A lot of people have very limited opinions (and ideas) about what emo is really all about. In popular culture, emo is actually a word that either refers to a subgenre of punk music or the attitude and styles of people who are into the emo music scene.

What is emo? If you surveyed a hundred emo kids, you probably will get a mixture of the three following answers. Emo is a style of music. Emo means emotional, someone not afraid to express their emotions. Emo is a style of dress. So, what’s that? Well, to answer correctly, it’s all three in one.
Emo means emotional. EMO Most are not afraid to express how they feel about anything. They do not think that it is shameful to cry or communicate their feelings to people, and prefers to maintain the mentality of an open book as far as emotional expression concerned. This can be good and bad. EMO, emo boys in particular, are often viewed as weak individuals for their ability to publicly display their emotions, whether happy or sad. A large number of people believe in non-emo EMO will train accidents caused by lack of emotional fear of crying in public, something that most people just try to private. On the other hand, many women see men as emo is more sensitive and less risk to date, because they tend to feel they lay on the table for all to see. This is a catch 22.
No matter how many EMO said they are trying to go contrary to their fashion, when you look emo, you will know that they are emo by the way they dress. Skin tight clothing, eye makeup on boys, and flat-ironed hair helps keep the EMO in groups of their own subculture. Emo is a fashion statement.
